Instituto de Fomento de la Región de Murcia (INFO) is the Regional Development Agency in Murcia. INFO Murcia is attached to the Regional Ministry of Economic development, Tourism and Employment of the regional government responsible for co-ordinating most of aspects of regional economic development including promotion of technical and financial services to regional SMEs, (eg. information services, entrepreneurship, business co-operation, export promotion, innovation schemes, cluster development, business facilities, RTD, etc), building soft infrastructures such as Technological or Business Innovation Centres and attracting investment to the region. Thus, INFO is considered to be a driving force behind the regional economy, promoting and supporting regional business sector through different aid mechanisms and technical services provided for the improvement of business competitiveness in the Murcia Region.
INFO Murcia has participated, since its creation in 1986, in the core-committees in charge of the planning and programming of the Regional Economic & Development Plans since early 90s, as well as in the core Committee which has prepared the Strategic Plan for the Regional Economy. Furthermore, INFO was the first intermediary organisation responsible for the implementation of the EU's Global Grant in Europe (ERDF over the 1990-93, 1994-99, 2000-2006 and 2007-2013 periods) whose main actions were: Improving financial situation of SME, Fostering innovation management and increasing of quality standards, Internationalisation and foreign promotion of products, Valorisation of regional economic resources, Improvement of competitiveness, promotion of the local and social development as well as best economic equipment and infrastructures. At present, INFO is managing the Global Grant scheme over the period 2014-2020 (more than 100 million €), and is also coordinating the design of the Smart Specialization Strategy for 2014 – 2020.
In order to enhance corporate innovation in the region, INFO encourages companies to incorporate innovation and R&D-based management strategies and get involved in technology transfer, ICTs, technology platforms and cooperation projects between companies, universities and research institutes. Furthermore, INFO fosters regional clusters as a key tool for industrial development, business cooperation and innovation. Thus, the regional cluster policy is axed through a regional network of 10 sectoral Technology Centers aimed to offer technological services to the industry.
